Do you have a little time to help out at one the oldest remaining village fairs in the country?

The St Lawrence Fair committee are holding a drop-in volunteers evening on Thursday 13th March at 124 High Street from 6-8pm. The committee will be there, along with some light refreshments and we’d love to chat to you about helping out with the Fair this year. To be clear, we’re not asking you to join the committee (unless you want to of course) but we do need help, it can be as simple as popping posters up for us in the run-up to our events to spending a couple of hours helping set up chairs and tables on Fair day – or taking them down again! We can’t run this Fair without your help, we get something like 7000 people on the Rec through the day of Fair day and that’s a LOT of people to accommodate – please come and sign up for a job on the 13th – we’d love you forever!

Now to something a bit more pressing that we absolutely must get some help with or risk having to cancel the events – we need a couple of small groups, again, not on the committee, who can help us with the Kids Disco on Fair Friday evening and the Procession on Fair Saturday.

For the Disco, we need about 6 people to help with setting up tables, ticket collection, soft drinks and snacks distribution – the committee are all busy sorting out catering, bar and bands and cannot resource this. Without this team, we will not be able to run the Kids Disco this year.

For the Procession, we need a small team – 4 people – to really get more groups involved in the procession. Because of the heavy cost of insurance for vehicles, groups have had to resort to walking the route and they all look amazing but we want to really make the procession even better with more groups getting involved but, again, the committee cannot resource this raising awareness and participation.

For both the Kids Disco and the Procession, the main committee will be able to help with all forms, permissions, provisions etc but we really need these two sub-teams to help us out, we don’t want to have to cancel these from our program of events but we are at risk of having to do that right now – so please, either come along to the volunteer evening in March or reach out to us at stlawrencefair@gmail.com to offer your help.
