Come Rain, Come Shine – The Fair Goes On!
What a weekend! Despite the wind and rain doing their best to dampen spirits, our village turned out in force once again to celebrate one of the longest-running fairs in the country – and what a celebration it was!
Friday kicked things off beautifully with a lovely Teddy Bear’s Picnic, a high-energy kids’ disco, and a fantastic band night that had the crowd dancing well into the evening. The atmosphere was full of fun and excitement, setting the tone perfectly for the weekend to come.
Saturday brought the full fair experience – from the stalls and Harris’s Funfair to the much-loved procession, filled with colour, creativity, and a whole lot of imagination inspired by this year’s theme, Happy Holidays. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part, helped out or cheered from the sidelines – these events simply wouldn’t happen without you.
A special shoutout goes to all our incredible volunteers, who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm – whether helping set up, marshalling roads, or tidying up at the end. We’re so grateful for everything you do.
One of the true highlights was the ever-popular Tug of War, with an electric atmosphere and some fiercely fought rounds! A big well done to Bridgers Farm, who managed to take the title from last year’s champions, The Tuggers, in a dramatic and hard-earned victory. And thank you to all the other brilliant teams who took part – you fought hard, gave it your all, and helped make the event a fantastic crowd-pleaser.
This year’s fair was a particularly special one for Nic and I, as it marked our final year as Co-Chairs. After 15 fantastic years on the committee, I’m also stepping down entirely. It’s been an honour and a joy to help bring this event to life each year, and I want to thank every committee member – past and present – for their tireless commitment, brilliant ideas, and wonderful friendship over the years.
We’re delighted to share that someone has already stepped forward to take on the role of Chair, and we look forward to introducing them properly soon. The fair is in safe hands, and I can’t wait to see how it continues to grow and thrive in the years ahead.
Thank you, once again, to our incredible village for making the fair what it is – a true celebration of community spirit, rain or shine.
